Obituary for Richard J Woomer Sr.
Richard J. Woomer Sr., 86 of Tyrone, died Friday January 26, 2018 at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Tyrone, on June 17, 1931 to the late Carl and Elizabeth Bollinger Woomer. Richard is survived by 1 son: Richard J. (Peggy) Woomer Jr.; 1 daughter: Wendy (Steve) Grot; 3 brothers: John, Dave and Bill Woomer; 1 sister: Sara Taylor; 7 grandchildren: Daniel, Jessica, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Winifred, Wilhelm and Brad and 3 great-grandchildren: Riley, Isabella and Liliana. He was preceded in death by 2 sons: Jeffrey L. and Kevin J. and 1 sister: Elizabeth Woomer.
Richard was a 1949 graduate of Tyrone High School. He was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Richard worked at Westvaco for many years until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of both the Bald Eagle and Tyrone Sportsmen’s Club as well as the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company. Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and bird watching.
A funeral service with military honors and flag presentation for Richard J. Woomer Sr. will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:00 AM with James Daughenbaugh officitating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday January 30, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 o’clock service. Interment will be at the Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
