Obituary for Miriam B. Holtz

Miriam B. Holtz, 85 of Tyrone died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. She was born on September 25, 1934 the daughter of the late George C. And Marian E. Gates Bowman. On July 22, 1978 she was married Richard H. Holtz who precedes her. She is survived by one brother: Dean (Bev) Bowman of Bradenton, FL; eight nieces and nephews: Jeff (Debby) Bowman, Andrea Bowman, Beth Nichols, Leslie Bowman, Manita Keach, Chris (Beth) Bowman, Charlie (Lisa) Barkman and Sue Barkman. She was preceded by one sister: Mabel B. Barkman; two brothers: John “Jack” Bowman and Baby Lynn Bowman; and two nephews: John and David Bowman.
Miriam was a 1952 graduate of Tyrone High School and a 1956 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. Upon graduation she worked in Bethesda, MD for the NIH in the clinical pathology lab from 1957-1978 before moving home and working at the Altoona Hospital as the supervisor of the clinical lab until her retirement in 1995.
Miriam was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Alpha Mu Tau, The Order fo the Eastern Star where she once served as a Matron, Tyrone Women’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed Penn State football and traveling.
An 11 am memorial service will be held at the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone on December 14, 2019 with pastor Sharon Erb officiating. Contributions in Miriam’s memory may be made the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone, 17 W 13th St, Tyrone, PA 16686. Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
