Obituary for Marguerite "Maggie" Domenick (Johnson)

Marguerite "Maggie" Domenick, age 88, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and formerly of Tyrone and Altoona, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early-morning hours on Wednesday, January 3. Maggie was born on September 17, 1935 in Tyrone, PA to Andrew and Esther (Phillips) Johnson.
On July 10, 1956, Maggie married the love of her life, Francis D. Domenick at St. Matthew Catholic
Church in Tyrone, PA. Fran and Maggie were married for 53 years until Fran’s passing in 2009.
Maggie was a 1953 graduate of Tyrone High School. She attended Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia and graduated in 1956. She received her bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College in Maine. After her graduation, she worked at Lock Haven Hospital in the maternity department while her husband attended Lock Haven University. After Francis graduated, they settled in Altoona, PA. For her next 30 years of employment, she worked in several doctor's offices and was the original nurse at PPG Industries in Tipton. Maggie and Fran loved to travel, taking over 24 cruises and several trips to Europe.
In 1995, they retired to Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather, meeting new friends and spending time with their daughter.
Maggie loved to play bridge. For 12 years Maggie took a ladies’ bridge playing trip to Daytona Beach for two weeks at a time with Sis Austin, Bea Stevens and Vi Aveni. They dubbed themselves the "Florida Bridge Queens".
Maggie is survived by her daughter: Marguerite "Peggy" Waite and husband, David Alderuccio of
Marathon, FL; her three grandchildren: Nicole (Josh) Grove, Lindsey (Chris) McBride and Michael
(Heather) Waite of York, PA and Miami, FL; and five great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Gavino Grove; Levi and Nash McBride; and Willow Waite of York, PA and Miami, FL. Maggie’s greatest joy was her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she always referred to as "her babies.” All “her babies” will forever remember her for her witty sense of humor, her hugs, and her famous pizzelles.
Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. A viewing will be held on Monday, January 8 at 12:00 PM at Feller Memorial home in Tyrone, PA., followed by 1:00 PM mass at St Matthew.
