Obituary for Margaret S. Roberts
Margaret "Margie" Shaffer Roberts, aged 92, passed peacefully on Wednesday Oct. 16, 2019 after a brief illness.
She was born on May 27, 1927 in Tyrone, PA, daughter of the late Paul Dougherty and Dorothy (Myers) Dougherty. After her mother's death, she was adopted and raised by her maternal great-aunt Florence (Lytle) Shaffer and her husband Albert. She graduated from Tyrone High School and on September 2, 1950, wed William “Bill” Roberts to whom she was married for 61 years until Bill’s passing in 2011.
In 1956, they moved to Fairview, PA where they raised three sons. After 38 years, Bill and Margie retired to Leesburg, Fl. Margie was a homemaker and bookkeeper all her life who loved quilting and gardening and was a devoted member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Leesburg. She adored her three great-granddaughters, Addison, Sophie and Ellie.
She is survived by three sons; Dave, Ted, Dan and Dan’s wife Sheila as well as by her grandson Nathan and wife Holly. She was preceded in death by her brother Paul Dougherty and an infant sister, Dorothy.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday September 26, at the chapel at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood, Pa. Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
