Obituary for Marcia L. York

Marcia L. York, age 61, of Tyrone and formerly of Nashville, TN died Saturday, January 16, 2016 at her residence. She was born January 19, 1954 in Nashville, the daughter of Willie Norman and Nina E. Browning York. She is survived by 3 children, Leslie Manis, Murfreesboro, TN, Elizabeth E. (Christopher) Cash, Juliet, TN and Victoria Hightower, Nashville, TN. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Cody Pryor, Amber Pendergrass, Brett Hightower, Brendan Manis and Krimsin Manis and 4 great grandchildren, Brylee Pryor, Coby Pryor, Kayden Pendergrass and Govin Pryor. Also surviving are 4 sisters – Kim Patton, Cookeville, TN, Jennifer Murphy, Joelton, TN, Tamara Simpson, New Zeland and Jocelyn York, Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by a sister Nina York. Also surviving is her dog Sassy.
Marcia retired in 1990 as a retail cashier. She attended the Church of Christ. Among her favorite activities were gardening, arts and crafts and needlework. She also sponsored her son’s race team and was a huge fan. A kin of Marcia’s was Sgt. Alvin C. York of World War I fame and a resident of Lafayette, TN. Her maternal grandfather, Robert L. Browning owned the first lumber mill in Red Boiling Springs, TN and her paternal great grandmother was the first beauty operator in Red Boiling Spring, TN.
