Obituary for Louise Lloyd

Louise Lloyd, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in her hometown, Tyrone. She was born November 20, 1928, in Altoona, the daughter of the late Fern W. and Nora (Shank) Minemyer. On September 12, 1948, she married Harold J. Lloyd, the two remaining happy together until his passing in 1988.

Surviving are her three children, Joyce (Bob) Stager, John W. (Janis) Lloyd, and Jeannie (Raymond) Lloyd Ginther; grandchildren, Melanie (Stager) Adams (Dave), Missy (Stager) Wilson (Johnny), Hilary (Lloyd) Hosford (Dave), Emily (Lloyd) Wilson (Leonard), Matthew Robert Ginther, Elizabeth Lloyd Ginther, and Zachary Austin Ginther; great grandchildren, Katelyn and Griffin Adams, Alex and Kaleb Wilson, and Douglas and Calvin Hosford. She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Rachel Jeanne Ginther.

Louise graduated from TAHS in 1946, and “Minnie” enjoyed the music and dancing of the Big Band era. After graduating from the Altoona School of Commerce, she worked as a secretary at Chicago Rivet and then for a decade as a cashier at the Tyrone A&P. However, she always wanted to attend PSU and enrolled after her children were older, graduating with a B.S. in Education in 1969. She began teaching English at TAHS; and later, after receiving her Masters’ degree, she became the English Department Head until she retired in 1991.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Tyrone and an avid fan of PSU football. She loved her family and rarely missed her granddaughters’ extra-curricular activities and sporting events. She enjoyed homemaking as well as gardening, reading, and assembling jigsaw puzzles.

Friends will be received Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Feller Memorial Home from 6-8 pm. There will be a visitation on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 10-11 am with a service following. Pastor Tina Hawkins will be officiating. Contributions may be made in her memory to Christ United Methodist Church in Tyrone.
