Obituary for Leroy Victor Haupt Jr.

Leroy Victor Haupt Jr, 92 of Tyrone passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024. He was the son of Leroy Victor Sr. and Maria (Moffa) Haupt, both of Tyrone. Leroy is survived by his two sons: Leroy Victor Haupt III and wife Olimpia and Michael Todd Waite and wife Susan; his siblings: Albert “Gene” Haupt, and Rosalind (Haupt) Snyder and husband Phil; his two granddaughters: Ashley Waite, and Crystal (Waite) Loose and husband Eric; his two great granddaughters: Hailey Loose, and Riley Loose; as well as a sister-in-law: Sherry (Lannen) Lamberson; and nieces and nephews: Stacy (Lamberson) Marini, Jimmy and Sharon Bywater, James Haupt, Lisa Snider, and Randy McElwin. Leroy was preceded in his ascent to heaven by his wife of 50 years Nancy C. (Lannen) Haupt; his daughter: Michealla Jo Waite; his sister: Mary “Sis” (Haupt) Bywater and husband Sonny; his twin infant grandsons Adam and Eric Waite; and a niece: Angela Givler.
A native of Tyrone, Leroy was born on May 18, 1931. Leroy served as an Airman in the United States Air Force Secret Service for four years. He always reminisced very fondly of his time in the military and carried many life lessons with him from his service. Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, Leroy worked on the Railroad in Juniata. After serving his country honorably, Leroy began working at the Tyrone Paper Mill and retired there after decades of service. He was a proud member of the American Legion for 67 years.
His hobbies and interests included collecting coins, learning and teaching his family members about history especially that of WWI and WWII, target shooting, engaging in political discussions, and spending time with his family. A quote that he carried with him through his life that one of his CO’s in the Air Force said to him was: “ Stand back 5 yards and punt.” This meant that when you don’t know what to do, you have to take a chance. Leroy will be greatly missed by his family as he was the patriarch.
A 2 pm funeral service with military honors for Leroy Victor Haupt Jr. will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Feller Memorial Home. Friends will be received from noon until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park.
