Kathleen Delores Widmer, 89, of Tyrone, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday. She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late John D. and Estella M. (Kline) Shildt.

She was married twice: first to Richard J. Tangeman, and on May 24, 1997, she married Eugene Widmer in Tyrone. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2021.

Surviving are five children: Richard Tangeman (Toni) of Altoona, Tammy Moyer (Jim) of Port Matilda, Terri Orolin (Joe) of Battle Creek, Mich., James Tangeman (Margie) of Tyrone and John Tangeman of Trabuco Canyon, Calif. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, with a 15th due in November.

Kathy was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers: Annis Berkstresser, Irene Douglas, Pat Bates, Betty Naimo, John D. Shildt and Delbert Shildt.

She was a 1952 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Kathy was employed by Ziff's Department Store and retired as a manager at Naturalizer Shoe Store. She was of the Catholic faith. Her favorite hymn was Morning Has Broken. Kathy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed the music and life story of Andre Rieu. Kathy was also fond of playing online scrabble with many of her friends.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to all of her caregivers, and especially for the friendships of Becky Whitesel, Theresa Nagle, Ashley Young and Kim Jones.

A noon celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Reservoir Park Pavilions 2 & 3. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
