Obituary for John C. "Jack" Swiderski Sr.

John C. “Jack” Swiderski, Sr., 88 of Warriors Mark died on Sunday, December 8, 2019. He was born on June 13, 1931, in Houtzdale the son of the late Frank and Blanche (Keatley) Swiderski. On June 7, 1952, in Huntingdon, PA he married Sally Stultz who preceded him in death on January 26, 2011. Jack is survived by three children: Michael (Anita) Swiderski of Windham, NH, David Swiderski of Grand Rapids, MI, and Susan (Paul) Notarfrancesco of Winchendon, MA; four siblings: Nancy, Jean, Paul, and Lynn; five grandchildren: Amy, Kelly, Noah, Dylan and Emily; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded by one son: John C. “Jack” Swiderski, Jr.; and four siblings: Norman, Francis, Betty, and Doris.
After graduating from high school in 1949, he enlisted in the USAF serving as a Communication Security Specialist from 1949 to 1953. In 1963, he enlisted in the US Naval Reserves, serving for 26 years in Naval communications and retired honorably in December 1989.
John worked as an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Company for 28 years, retiring in 1984. After retirement, Jack was employed by the James E. VanZandt Veteran’s Hospital and the Army Corp of Engineers, Raystown.
Jack was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Tyrone, and a past member of the Tyrone Rotary Club as President, Vice President, and Treasurer; the Naval Fleet Reserve Association; Naval Enlisted Reserve Association; Tyrone Honor Guard; Tyrone Hospital and Medical Association where he served as director. For more than 20 years, he volunteered at Tyrone Hospital and was an avid ham radio enthusiast. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. from 5-8 pm. A service with military honors will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, at the Trinity Episcopal church at 11 am. Contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 830 Washington Ave., Tyrone, PA 16686.
