Janet Ruth DeMuth, 97 of Sinking Valley, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022. She was born in Altoona on June 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Charles G. and Ruth (Rupp) Plummer. She married Jack B. DeMuth in Altoona, who preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by two children: Janine (Don) Briggs of Bedford, and Jay (Judie) DeMuth of Albemarle North Carolina; a daughter-in-law: Elaine DeMuth of Sinking Valley: 5 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Jef DeMuth; a sister: Katherine (Everts) Temple; and two brother-in-laws: Fred Everts and Willis Temple.


She was a graduate of Altoona High School class of 1943 and Slippery Rock University class of 1947. She was a physical Education Teacher at Keith Junior High School as well as several other schools in the area. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sinking Valley.


She was also a member of the National Audubon Society and helped with local bird counts as well. She was a naturalist who enjoyed being outside, studying botany, and bird watching. She was also a long time tour guide at Fort Roberdeau.
