Obituary for Jane Stapert Munro

Jane S. Munro, 75, of Tyrone Township, passed away Tuesday following a courageous battle with cancer and, ultimately pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Paterson, N.J., daughter of the late Samuel and Edith (Greydanus) Stapert.

Jane grew up in Oakland, N.J. and attended Douglass College (Rutgers University), in New Brunswick, N.J., graduating in 1970 with a degree in economics.

On March 21, 1970, Jane married John D. “Jack” Munro in Kirkpatrick Chapel on the Rutgers campus. They remained life companions for over 53 years.

Jane worked as a bank officer during her years in New Jersey, and in health care in Connecticut. She came to Blair County in 1989.

Jane enjoyed traveling with Jack, and scrap-booking those journeys, as well as needlework, crochet, cooking … and a dog and three cats. She also enjoyed helping out at Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church, working at various times as bookkeeper, financial secretary and writing for the newsletter.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Anne (Charlie) Fraatz in 2014; and her long-time friend, Lynn (Jim) Higgins.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; a brother, David (Vanessa) Stapert of Burns, Wyo.; her brother-in-law, Charlie Fraatz of Jacksonville, Fla.; her aunt, Carol Bennett of E. Worcester, N.Y.; four dear old friends: Cindy, Carol, Pat and Babs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for the near future. The family will gather for her interment in Arch Spring Cemetery on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602; the Lupus Foundation of America; or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
