Obituary for James Craven Myers

James Craven Myers, 83 of Tipton passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 30, 1936 the son of the late John D. and Gwendolyn M. (Musser) Myers Sr. On January 28, 1956 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tyrone he married Carolyn Erhard who survives. Also surviving are three children: Natalie McCarthy, Greg (Tammy) Myers and Laura (Mark) Shope; three grandchildren: Ian Myers, Jill McCarthy and Keith Myers; five great-grandchildren: Jacob McCarthy, Tegan, Kinsley, Hayes and Ellison Myers; one brother: John D. Myers Jr.; and neighbor and best friend: Dale Sheasley.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Tyrone High School. After graduation he enlisted and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for and retired from PPG as a shipping supervisor, He belonged to the Tyrone Elks Club BPOE Lodge #212 and was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, antiquing, lunches with the PPG retirees and his 1955 classmates, tending to his yardwork…as Jim would say “The best days end in dirty clothes.” and above all else he enjoyed his time spent with family.
A 3 pm funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Peter Dittman officiating. Friends will be received on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of the memorial service. Contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to Toys for Tots, Gift Processing Administrator 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive Triangle, VA 22172 or St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. and will follow all CDC and Government mandates. We ask that you please wear a mask and maintain a safe social distance.
