James Barton Harpster Sr., 78 of Tyrone, passed away January 2, 2022. He was born in Tyrone on April 10, 1943 to the late Ellis Ray and Ethel Mae (Garber) Harpster. On September 23, 2000 he married Peggy Calderwood who survives.
Also surviving are children: David Dow (Marlene) of Virginia, James Jr. of New York, Christine Isenhour of Florida, Tammy Harpster; step-sons: Robert, Briton, Brady Frantz; 3 grandchildren; siblings: Beverly Swan, Betty Miller and Andy Harpster. He was preceded in death by his sons: Timothy and Wade; and sister Ruth Himes.
Jim was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd and the Elks Lodge 212. He graduated from Tyrone Area High School in 1961, and began his working career on the farms of Eden Hill. Jim was a respected contractor, No project was too big or complicated for him to complete. He was talented, hard-working, kind and generous.
A memorial service for James will be held on May 21, 2022, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11am, until the service at 12pm. Inurnment will be held at East Lawn Cemetery.
