James E. Barry, 91 of Tyrone, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021. He was born in Philipsburg on January 31, 1929 the son of the late James F. and Margaret (Frantz) Barry. On April 18, 1951 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church he married Marjorie M. Beckwith who preceded him in death on December 8, 2008. He is survived by two sons: James R. (Judy) and Stephen C. (Judy) Barry; six grandchildren: Stephanie, James Jr, Adam, Kelly, Stephanie, Trevor; eight great-grandchildren: Makenna, John, Allie, Kazlee, Hayden, Quinn, Vivian and Corabelle; and one sister: Eleanor Chilcoate. He was preceded by siblings: Harry “Buck”, Charlotte, Ruth and Olga.
Jim served honorably as a sergeant in the Army Corp of Engineers and was stationed in Germany. He worked up until his retirement as an electrician. He was a member of Northwood Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
An 11 am funeral service for James E. Barry will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with pastor Mark Melhorn officiating. Friends will be received on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 2-4 pm at the funeral home. Please be advised that all CDC and DOH Covid-19 recommendations will be followed.
