Helena Felicia Peterson, 93 of Tyrone, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She was born on February 6, 1928 in Jaworzno, Poland, the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Rozalia (Smalcerz) Herman. She moved to France at a very young age and later met her husband there During World War II. On December 15, 1945 in Raismes, France she married Leonard Paul Peterson who preceded her in death on August 25, 1979. Helena is survived by two sons: Lester (Dorothy) Peterson of Johnstown and James (Bernadette) Peterson of Nebraska; one daughter: Patty (Craig) Kilmer of Tyrone; two granddaughters: Diana and Stephanie; two great grandchildren: Amanda and Mason; three great-great grandchildren: Alyssa, Johnathan and Wyatt; two sisters: Stephanie Bernatzki and Sophie Kosmala both of France; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson; Lester Peterson Jr.; and three siblings: Woidec, Maria and Stacha.
Helena was a member of the Howard Gardner Post 281 American Legion Auxiliary in Tyrone. She loved to play bingo, cards and take trips to the casino.
An 11 am funeral service for Helena Felicia Peterson will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. Friends will be received on Saturday from 10 am until the 11 am service time. Private interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
