Obituary for Helen Mengel
Helen Marjorie Mengel, 94, of Tyrone, passed away Sunday April 10, 2022 at home. She was born on September 13, 1927 in Tyrone to the late Joseph and Iva Mae (Huntsman) Diehl.
She is survived by her children, Sharon L., Margaret L., David C. (Ruth Mora), and Joseph C. Mengel; Son-in-Law, George Ritter; grandchildren, Sonja Anderson, Ann Ritter (Leo Korein), Emily Mengel, Jillian Mengel, Madeline Mengel, Neyshmi Mora, Melissa Mora, and Nickol Mora (Luke Effler); great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alma, Laurel, Arthur, and Gloria; and her sister Eleanor Miller of Tyrone. She was preceded in death by her loving husband David Grove Mengel; daughters, Suzanne L. and Andrea L. Mengel; and siblings, Jane Corey, Robert, William F., George, Bernard, Joseph and Charles.
Helen spent her career as a cafeteria cook at TAHS. She was a member of Tyrone's Church of The Brethren, and American Legion Auxiliary of Tyrone. She was also a Democratic Committee Woman in Snyder Township for many years.
Helen’s life was her family and to Helen, everyone became family. She lived on her beautiful mountain top, surrounded by nature, and her door was always open. Helen loved reading, cooking and baking, and her favorite game of pinochle.
The home she and her husband built, one room at a time, was always bustling, and you never knew who would walk through her door next; but they were always greeted with her beautiful smile and something to eat!
Friends will be received from 10-11am, Saturday, April 23, 2022, followed by a celebration of life at the Tyrone Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Eric Fether officiating.
