Obituary for Harry Robert Knox
Harry Robert Knox, 76 of Tipton, died Monday, December 16, 2019 at The Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born in Altoona on February 24, 1943, the son of the late Harry I. and Marian (Fleck) Knox. He was married to Aneta Braughler who preceded him in death in 1978. Harry is survived by one sister: Anne (Gerard) Gross of State College; one brother: David Knox of Latrobe; two nieces: Elizabeth Gross of State College and Jennifer McDonald of Alexandria, VA; one nephew: Stephen Gross of New York City; and five great-nieces and nephews: Eoinn Maguire, Lillian & Rachel McDonald, Duncan & Lucille Gross.
Harry was a 1961 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a naval communications specialist on several destroyers. After serving his country, Harry began working for Beasley Motor Rebuilders after which he drove a truck for Aetna Freightliners and finally retiring as an independent truck driver for Daily Express. Through all of his time driving freight he had no accidents and is proud of his 41 years of safe driving.
Harry was a member of Logan Valley Presbyterian Church in Bellwood and a member of Daily Express’s Million Miles Club, totaling over 2,000,000 miles without accident. He was also the organizer of the annual “Pipehauler Picnic”, was an avid reader of many books on history and biographies. He enjoyed hiking in the woods and drove cross-country several times with his wife before her passing. Harry often gave blood and was proud to have donated over 200 pints in his lifetime.
Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 10 am for visitation followed by an 11 am funeral service with military honors at the funeral home with pastor Karen Ward officiating. Interment will be made at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
