Obituary for Glenna J Peck

Glenna J. (Laird) Peck, 90, of Tyrone, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. She was born in Tyrone on April 11, 1931, the daughter of Joseph D. and Ida Pearl (Kerlin) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, F. Mark Laird and second husband, Robert F. Peck. She is survived by five children: Mark D. (Mary) Laird of Tyrone, Larry G. Laird of Waynesboro, Michael O. (Tonya) Laird of Sinking Valley, Amy S. Morrissey of Waynesboro, and Bradley W. (Debbie) Laird of Dover, Ohio; three step-children: Steve (Frances), Gary (Denise), and Alan Peck; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Donald L. Wilson. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Margaret Cunningham, Anna Jane Etters, Onah Miller, Betty Baum and J. D (Dud) Wilson Jr., and her oldest grandchild, Joshua D. Laird.

Glenna was a 1949 graduate of Tyrone Area High School where she participated in many musical groups, was the first female drum major in the school’s history as well as one of the first JV cheerleaders. She worked at the Ben Franklin 5 and 10, WestVaco and the Navy Department. When her children were older, she returned to school at the Altoona Vocational Technical School and became an LPN. She then worked at Epworth Manor for 20 years. After retiring, she volunteered in the Altoona Hospital ER, the VA Home and other nursing homes. She was also an EMT.

She enjoyed participating in local musical groups and performed in many choral shows and musicals at the YMCA. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tyrone where she helped in the nursery and with youth groups. She also liked painting and refinishing furniture. Her biggest joy in life was her family.

A Celebration of Life for Glenna J. Peck will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. Tyrone, PA
