Obituary for Glenn Roy Grassmyer Sr.

Glenn Roy Grassmyer Sr., 82, died at home peacefully surrounded by family on April 19, 2023. Born in Pinecroft on December 4, 1940, at his family’s farm, he was the son of Clarence and Emily (Steiver) Grassmyer. He married Julie Dobiss, who survives, on January 14, 1958 in Maryland.

He lived most of his life in the Tyrone area. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, camping and just being in the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenn loved the big family Christmas parties and always looked forward to having everyone home under one roof.

He enjoyed telling stories of growing up and taking corn from the field and boiling it in the old iron ore furnace in Pinecroft at night and getting caught by a neighboring farmer. Who instead of punishing them, sat down and took a beer and ate corn with them. Glenn was dearly loved and will be incredibly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, David Grassmyer of Sinking Valley, Brian Grassmyer (Cindy) of Virginia Beach Va, Lori Brobeck (Michael) of Port Matilda, Janet Bumbarger (Kevin) of Port Matilda, and Glenn Grassmyer Jr. of Tyrone. As well as his grandchildren, Tabitha McKinley (Robert) of Tyrone, Donny Burns (Alyssa) of Bellefonte, Christina Burns of Clearfield, Ashley Cambridge of Duncansville, Nichole Cambridge of Bellefonte, Erica Cambridge (Brittany) of Murfreesboro TN, Jeffrey Cambridge of Key West Fl, Shena Duprez (Frank) of Flinton, Kylie Grassmyer of Billings MT, Tiffany Katz (Sven) of Eckelshausen Germany, and Cortney Grassmyer of Wetzlar Germany. He has 18 great grandchildren and one on the way; and brothers Russel Grassmyer of Duncansville, Jesse Grassmyer of Altoona, and Melvin Grassmyer of Pinecroft. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Alex Grassmyer of Tyrone.

Services will be held at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Noon, with Ardean Latchford officiating.
