Gerald E. Gardner, 83 of Tyrone, went to be with his Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 2, 2022. He was born on December 3, 1938, in Bald Eagle, the son of the late Rexford D. and Cora (Etters) Gardner Sr. On April 27, 1956, in Port Matilda he married Phyllis Hagen who survives. Also surviving are four children: Darlene Gardner of Tyrone, Janice (Bill) Creech of Mooresville, IN, Gerri (Roy) Smith of Tyrone, and Brad (Amy) Gardner of Tyrone; seven grandchildren: Carri, Leah, Chad, Kassie, Marissa, Hanna, and Collin; four great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Cassidy, Karsyn, and Jaxon; he was the last of his immediate family but leaves behind one half-brother: Kevin Gardner; and one stepbrother: Jim Denny. He was preceded in death by siblings: Laura Mae, Ronald, Dave, Rex Jr. and Pete Gardner, and Mona Sharer.
Gerald was a 1956 graduate of Tyrone High School, he worked for Clasters, The Chicago Rivet and Machine Company, and was a carpenter, before answering the call to go into full time ministry in 1977. He last attended God's Missionary Church of Alexandria, and at one point had his own church in Northwood, the Full Gospel Holiness Church. He was also a member of WPM of Mt. Olive.
He enjoyed carpentry, hunting, especially racoons, and fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, baking, and barbecuing, but hated doing the dishes. He loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, and loved playing with his dogs Rascal and Teddy.
He was a loving husband and took great care of his wife Phyllis and enjoyed every moment they had together.
A 1 pm funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Darl Ware officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Memorial Home from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm as well as on Friday from noon until the service.
