Obituary for George W. "June" Calderwood Jr.

George “June” W. Calderwood Jr., 98, died Saturday November 3rd, 2018. He was born August 1st, 1920, the son of the late Margaret Brisbin and George W. Calderwood Sr.. On June, 29, 1946 he married Evelyn Calderwood who preceded him in death. He is survived by 2 children: Darlene (Mike) Ammerman and Jean (Jack) Wallace; 5 grandchildren: Sharon (Matthew) Snyder, Robert (Emily) Ammerman, Jason (Shelly) Wallace, Jon (Jada) Wallace, Kylie (Curtis) Clouser; and 12 great-grandchildren: Cody, Parker, Mallory, Clayton, Kate, Jacob, Drew, Cohen, Maya, Cora, Camryn, Deacon George. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Lawrence Calderwood, Leonard Calderwood, Bob Calderwood; and 1 sister: Dorothy Andrews. He was the last of his immediate family.
June served in the United States Army where he received the American Theater ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon, 1 Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and 1 Victory Medal.
He was a proud member of the Mark IV Hunting Camp, American Legion Howard Gardner Post #281, Anderson Denny VFW Post #4559, and a lifetime member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
He enjoyed hunting, carpentry, and woodworking. He was a proud Army veteran and was a retired machine operator from the Chicago Rivet. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids.
An 11 AM funeral service will be held at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc, on Friday, November 9th, 2018 with Reverend Paul Johnson Officiating. Interment with military honors will be at The Oak Grove Cemetery immediately following the service. Friends will be received on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home as well as on Friday from 10 AM until the 11 AM service.
