Obituary for Earl C. Fern

Earl C. Fern, age 88, of Tyrone died Thursday, June 16, 2016 . He was born October 16, 1927 in Phillipsburg, the son of Harold and Edna Ingram Fern. On September 5, 1952 at Winchester, VA he was married to Jane Lucas who preceded him in death August 11, 2001. He is survived by two daughters, Susan (Mark) Rhoades and Valerie (Kevin) Bates, both of Tyrone and his daughter in law Debbie Fern of Watsontown, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Douglas E. Fern and a brother Carl “Jim” Eugene Fern.
Mr. Fern was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1945. He served for 3 years in the US Navy with the rank of AMEN. He was employed as a block operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad retiring in October 1989.
Earl was a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, Howard Gardner Post #281 American Legion and Anderson Denny Post 4559. He enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished carpenter and handyman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins and nieces and enjoyed making people laugh.
Funeral service for Earl C. Fern will be Monday, June 20th at 11 AM at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Interment with Military Honors by the Tyrone Honor Guard will be in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until the 11 AM service.
