Obituary for Earl Oliver Detwiler

Earl Oliver Detwiler, 91 of Tyrone, died Saturday, February 12, 2022. He was born in Grazierville on February 24, 1930, the son of the late John and Carrie (Harshberger) Detwiler. He was preceded by three wives: Loretta Bell Bonsell, Jenny Brisbin, and Verna Benn. He is survived by three children: Brenda (Dave) Detwiler Worgul of Coalport, Earl David Detwiler of Huntingdon, and Kevin (Sandy) Detwiler Sr. of Warriors Mark; five grandchildren: David, Kirsten, Kalyn, Kevin Jr., and Rebekah; seven great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Charleigh, Gabriel, Noah, Jonah, Saul, and Ryan; stepchildren: Denny (Dana), Dave (Tammy), Jean, Darlene, and Donna (Clayton); several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Marcella, Kaye, and Sally. He was preceded by seven siblings: Gary, John, Chalmer, Sonny, Berttie, Peggy, and Faye.


Earl served in the US Coast Guard. He retired on July 15, 1991 from Big Yank as a supervisor after 39 years of dedicated service.


He was a member of the Elks BPOE 212 and the Grazierville Gang, and he also helped with meals on wheels. He enjoyed playing softball as a member of the BullPen Restaurant team and the papermill fastpitch team, bowling in numerous leagues around town, loved going to Canada to fish, golfing at Sinking Valley, gardening, horseback riding, coaching his children, and singing at many local senior homes. Earl was a family man and loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


An 11 am funeral service for Earl Oliver Detwiler will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Tim Goss officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 6-8 pm and on Friday from 10 am until the 11 am service
